CTAG ( Closing the Achievement Gap)
The CTAG (Closing The Achievement Gap) staff assist students and other staff by acting as a link between students and needed resources. Our title in the school district is Linkage Coordinators. The original design of CTAG was to assist 9th grade black male students academically. We know if students pass the 9th grade the odds of graduating on time are much higher. Lima CTAG quickly learned that addressing the social/emotional needs of our students was equally as important as the academic needs. After all a student can't learn when he is hurting physically, emotionally and mentally. We address these needs by connecting each student and their families to the resources needed for success. This can be inclusive of: mental health counselling, housing authorities, medical assistance, tutoring and other community resources. Again, we know it is difficult to learn when you are concerned about daily basic needs.
CTAG staff also conduct daily group sessions to help improve student attitudes about school, community and life. This done by using "Ohio Violence Prevention Process" (OVPP) and " The Light From Within Manhood Training". Both are realistic approaches to addressing violence and the obstacles to student success. CTAG staff utilizes current movies as teaching tools to address what students see in their communities. Additionally CTAG staff conducts one-to-one sessions, student mediation, home visits, mentoring, field trips and other exposures. CTAG staff has access to DASL and Progressbook to check academic progress daily. Many of the CTAG staff also host activities outside of the school to build positive and healthy relationships with students. It is our believe that relationships are vital to CTAG success.
